We see Kitty in Chicago with her dad before the whole gang takes a trip to Japan in Kitty's attempts to try and untangle her father from a life of crime! Wolverine shows up to then untangle Kitty from a life of crime. Or being brainwashed by a crazy immortal ninja samurai dude.
